The Ceridian HCM Summit 2019

Updated: Jul 18, 2019

On Wednesday 22nd May 2019, the Veran team headed over to the Ceridian HCM Summit. We were eager to learn more about what has made Ceridian’s workforce management platform ‘Dayforce’ the fastest growing cloud-based product on the market since its acquisition by Ceridian in 2012. We were shown the capabilities of the platform, heard from customers of their success and observed a demonstration by the Ceridian CEO, David Ossip.

In recent years, the use of cloud based Human Capital Management (HCM) systems have been rapidly growing, but with a plethora of competitors, what makes the Dayforce platform unique?

Let’s begin with what is Dayforce?

Dayforce is a comprehensive, scalable cloud based HCM solution, providing global system of records, document management and reporting and predictive analytics for talent, workforce management, leave management and payroll.

Dayforce provides end to end client management in a single database with a single solution. It unifies data from across the entire employee lifecycle, and is an organisation-wide system, connecting HR, finance, IT, procurement and others.

Dayforce may be the ideal HCM system if your interests lie in:

1) Labour scheduling

We were told of the high customer satisfaction in sectors that use shift work patterns due to its strong labour scheduling functions, specifically hospitality and retail sectors, with clients including Premier Inn, Beefeater, and Costa Coffee. Using Dayforce, organisations can list shift-work availability, where employees are able to register for shifts and trade shifts with others, subject to customisable company policy, such as notice periods required, workflow approval and frequency of shift trades allowed.

2) Customisation

Dayforce allows organisations to select the applicable functions of the system that they would like to operate and eliminate any functions from their interface that is unnecessary for your organisation. Following selection and implementation, employees can customise their personal user interface, with the option to select icons and functions that appear on their homepages, in a similar way to apps, enhancing ease of access and employee engagement.

3) Payroll

Dayforce has combined payroll and time, so that payroll can be accessed and adjusted at any time during the pay cycle, as opposed to traditional methods of waiting till a pay period comes to an end before processing payments. Processing simultaneously with time allows data to be audited and verified early, to minimise errors and late payments. As a result of this feature, Ceridian has been recognised as a leader in Payroll Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Services by Gartner.

We were then invited to a fireside chat with Jim Jensen, Senior Vice President of Global Partners and Alliances to learn about Ceridian’s move away from traditional annual updates/releases, but instead, releasing a service pack every 6 weeks. Jim quoted that “price only becomes an issue when value is not realised”.

We at Veran couldn’t agree more as we are dedicated to providing value to organisations, whatever their stage of transformation is.
